I’m taking a break from my Short Story Sunday series so that I can share with you all how we celebrated my sons first birthday.
As you all may or may not know I struggled with trying to figure out what to do for my son’s first birthday. I am a new Mom and my husband and I found it kinda difficult to come up with something that was appropriate for him and still allowed him to have fun.
At the very last minute, literally the day before his birthday, we decided to have a small gathering with a few friends and family. That way he can still be comfortable and have a good time.
So I immediately went into overdrive mode. I had less than 24 hours to make my son’s birthday amazing, even though he may not remember one second from this day. We decided to do an Elmo themed party since that is his favorite character at the time and I had already ordered him a birthday shirt months prior with the bright red character on the front of it.
Yesterday at his party, my son spent most of the day crying. He cried when people tried to hold him, he even cried when we sang happy birthday to him. By the end of the party he warmed up to everything that was going on and started to enjoy himself. But at the same time I wouldn’t change nothing about that day.
My son, who I had prayed years and years for was healthy and celebrating a year of life. I was so happy that I cried tears of joy. Overall his birthday was a success and it taught me a valuable lesson: never wait until the last minute to get things done. Lol.
